Originally published in 1881, What Mrs. Fisher Knows About Old Southern Cooking is the first cookbook by an African-American, which contains 160 authentic old Southern recipes.

Mrs. Abby Fisher, a former slave, was awarded two medals at the San Francisco Mechanics' Institute Fair, 1880, for best pickles and sauces and best assortment of jellies and preserves. This book was based on her knowledge and experience of upwards of thirty-five years in the art of Southern cooking, pickle and jelly making, etc.

The classic will be a useful and enjoyable reading by anyone with an interest in African-American or Southern cookery, and anyone who would like to re-create authentic 19th century American cuisine.
