Originally published in 1852 and authored by Robert Morris, Lights & Shadows of Freemasonry was a classic in its day, long since out of print. Over 380 pages, it is a series of stories that explore the values of Freemasonry. Many Masonic leaders were influenced to join the Fraternity because of this book.
Robert Morris was one of the three most influential Masons of the 19th Century (others being Albert Mackey and Albert Pike). He is remembered in Masonic circles as a founder of the Order of the Eastern Star, an auxiliary of the Masonic Order for women. He is also known as the Poet Laureate of Masonry, who reportedly wrote over 400 poems, many of them devoted to the Masons, their rituals, practices, and beliefs.
