Originally published in 1900s, Styles of Ornament Shown in Designs demonstrates over 3,700 designs in 400 full-page black & white plates, arranged in historical order and with illustrated descriptive text, from various cultures and countries and going back to antiquity.

The author claimed that the object of the book was to "exhibit the entire system of Ornament in all its different styles and to illustrate the different uses to which it is applied", and to be served as "a handbook for architects, designers, painters, sculptors, wood-carvers, chasers, modellers, cabinet-makers, ..."
